As an alternative, you can use Web 2.0 websites such as Tumblr, Wix (Free Version) and others to create small blog-like profiles.

If you are seeking to build a website without taking web hosting services, registering domain names will serve no purpose. A web hosting company makes it possible for your website to be accessed by everyone on the web.

yes and no. WordPress actually has two different versions, WordPress.org and WordPress.com. With the second version, you can actually obtain a free domain and website, without the need to sign up for hosting on your own.
