How long does it take GoDaddy to release a domain?
GoDaddy generally sends out an email to the domain owner for confirmation and this can speed up the transfer if you answer it. If you already have then there is nothing more you can do from your side. Your timeframe is typical although I have seen transfers happen in as little as 8 hours or as long as 14 days.

Once the domain name expires, it is moved to that registrar’s parking nameserver and the website and email service stop working. However, the domain name itself remains on your account for another 30 days after the expiration date.
What happens when a domain is not renewed?
When a domain expires it becomes inactive immediately and all the services attached to it cease to function. Certain domain names are auto-renew only and cannot be renewed manually. For these domains there is no grace period. Once they’ve expired it’s not possible to recover them.
What happens if I don’t renew my domain name?
People register domain names and must renew their registration, similar to how you would lease an apartment or a car. If a domain does not get renewed, then it will go back into the wild where it then has a chance to be snatched up by someone else.

What does parking a domain mean?
Domain parking is the registration of an Internet domain name without that domain being associated with any services such as e-mail or a website. This may have been done with a view to reserving the domain name for future development, and to protect against the possibility of cybersquatting.
How do people own domains?
Getting a domain name involves registering the name you want with an organisation called ICANN through a domain name registrar. For example, if you choose a name like “example.com”, you will have to go to a registrar, pay a registration fee that costs around US$10 to US$35 for that name.
